Michael McKibbin

About

I build secure, reliable software systems by combining software engineering, cloud, DevOps, and cybersecurity practices. My focus is on delivering maintainable applications that are observable, scalable, and designed with security in mind.

Short bio

I am a software engineer with a strong interest in cybersecurity and DevOps. I enjoy designing and building systems that are not only functional, but also resilient, maintainable, and secure. My experience spans backend and full-stack development, cloud services, containerisation, and CI/CD automation. I take a practical approach to engineering problems, with an emphasis on clean architecture, testing, and continuous improvement.

Tech stack

Languages & Frameworks

Java, C#/.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Next.js.

Cloud & DevOps

AWS, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Linux, GitHub Actions, logging & monitoring.

Security

Secure coding practices, authentication & authorisation, basic network security, vulnerability awareness.

Other

SQL & relational databases, REST APIs, testing (unit/integration), documentation.

Career direction

I am targeting roles where I can combine software engineering with cloud and security, particularly in backend or cloud-focused environments.

I am especially interested in building cloud-native systems, improving deployment pipelines, and applying security best practices throughout the development lifecycle. I value environments that emphasise ownership, collaboration, and well-structured, maintainable systems.
